Bluebloods : Karaka 2015 Yearling Sale Preview
INTRODUCTION Welcome to Bluebloods’ Karaka 2015 Preview, where you will get an insight into the success of New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sales Series and a look at the future stars who will be on offer at Karaka this January. Celebrating New Zealand success, kiwi gallopers won 20% of Gr.1 races in Australia last season, from just over 5% of the racing population. GRADUATES of NZB’s Sale Series account for 35% of Gr.1 -winning yearling sale graduates in Australasia during the past three seasons, the most of any auction house. This is all achieved with just 21% of the auctioned yearling crop. Last season saw 13 Gr.1 races won by New Zealand gallopers in Australia. The kiwis stood up in the big moments with four of the eight Gr.1 races at The Championships going across the Tasman. Amongst them: Karaka graduate Sacred Falls (NZ) (O’Reilly) was victorious in his second successive Doncaster Handicap-Gr.1, the sixth win in seven years by a kiwi. Three year-olds Criterion (NZ) (Sebring) and Rising Romance (NZ) (Ekraar) showed why New Zealand three year-olds are so revered by winning the AJC Derby-Gr.1 and AJC Oaks- Gr.1 respectively. They form part of an amazing record kiwis have in Gr.1 three year-old races at 2000m and above, winning 44% of those races in the past five seasons. Rounding out The Championships, and his career, was New Zealand Horse of the Year Dundeel (NZ) (High Chaparral) as he bowed out a winner in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes- Gr.1, the sixth Gr.1 victory in his illustrious career. The new racing season has kicked off with a bang, already four Gr.1 wins under the belt in Australia by Karaka graduates. Again it is the kiwi three year-olds to the fore, emphasised by Preferment, winner of the VRC Derby-Gr.1 . The son of legendary sire Zabeel added to New Zealand’s already impressive Gr.1 Derby tally, which counts 40% of Gr.1 Derbys in Australia in the past five completed seasons. Raised on the pristine New Zealand landscapes, yearlings at Karaka 2015 have enjoyed the start to life that so many champions before them have relished. The local sire ranks are growing ever stronger as they achieve success right across the world, and are being added to with a host of emerging and young sires waiting to prove themselves with their first progeny hitting racetracks and the sale ring. While the quality of thoroughbred on offer is the true attraction of the sales, Karaka is renowned for its world class hospitality at the sale complex that is rated second to none. The NZB Team extends a warm welcome to everyone to join them at Karaka this January and take advantage of the supreme kiwi hospitality while selecting your next racetrack stars.
