Bluebloods : Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale 2013
February 2013 55 KIA-ORA STUD'S Interesting Premier draft by Paul Vettise MELBOURNE PREMIER YEARLING SALE KIA-ORA Stud equine manager Alex Kingston spoke with Bluebloods about their draft for the upcoming Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale. The Scone nursery, which has recently joined in the ownership of Black Caviar's Gr,1-winning half- brother and Cox Plate runner-up All Too Hard, has a proud selling history and has the enviable record of producing the winners of six Melbourne Cups, 15 Derbys and five Cox Plates. Highlights of your draft?: "We've got three standouts, and the first is the Tale Of The Cat-Rajasi (Lot 11) and she's a muscular filly with a lot of substance and very mature. The Exceed And Excel filly out of Kerimba (Lot 455) is a full- sister to the stakes winner Cathay Lady (Belle of the Turf Stakes) and she's a really nice type. The Sebring- Hancora (Lot 418) is a precocious colt with a lot of strength." The Tale Of The Cat is out of a Redoute's Choice mare from a productive black type family while the Exceed And Excel, who was also bred by Kia-Ora, is out of an Irish-bred mare by Sinndar with a number of European Group winners on her pedigree page. The Sebring colt's Septieme Ciel dam Hancora, was a stakes winner in France, and all three of her foals to race have won. Kia-Ora's draft is completed by Flying Spur and Al Maher colts and fillies by Encosta de Lago, Dylan Thomas, Street Sense and Choisir. Why do you like selling at Melbourne Premier?: "We've been selling there since 2005, and we've sold some very good horses. The Premier Sale is at the higher end of the market where we can showcase yearlings with pedigree and type to local and overseas markets." Your best moment from past sales/best horse sold at Premier?: The best horse we have sold has been Igugu to Livestock Traders of South Africa for $65,000. She was the International Racehorse of the Year in 2012 and was South Africa's champion three year-old filly and 2011 Horse of the Year." Currently being readied for the Dubai World Cup-Gr.1 in March, Igugu's feature race wins include the Durban July-Gr.1, the J & B Met-Gr.1, the Woolavington-Gr.1 and the SA Fillies' Guineas-Gr.1. "We also sold a Fastnet Rock-Scenario for $300,000, the highest price Kia-Ora has got at the Premier Sale. She exceeded all our expectations." What should buyers look for in a yearling?: "Obviously all buyers have their own preferences, but they should be looking for an athlete and a muscular, precocious type with a rhythmic walk that covers a lot of ground. Buyers at the Premier Sale are also a bit more forgiving of minor faults in yearlings' conformation." 2013 SALE DRAFT Allanbridge Road, Scone NSW 2337 Ph: 02 6543 7105 Fax: 02 6543 7319 email@example.com CONTACT Lot Colour Sex Sire Dam 11 B.
