Bluebloods : Karaka 2012 Yearling Sale Preview
Highview’s roll of honour is a long and proud one and features New Zealand and Australian Horses of the Year as the crack mares Tycoon Lil and Let’s Elope are graduates of the farm. The former won eight races including Gr.1 titles in the New Zealand Oaks, Canterbury Guineas and New Zealand 1000 Guineas while Let’s Elope was an outstanding performer with the Melbourne and Caulfield Cups as well as the Mackinnon Stakes and the Australian Cup to her credit. Nightlign (Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes), Richfield Lady (VRC Oaks), Waikato (Kranji Mile), Just Call Me Sir (Kelt Capital Stakes), Grooming (Brisbane Cup), Gamine (SA Oaks) and Sir Kinloch (Thorndon Mile) are among other elite performers from the stud. Danroad (AUS) (Danehill (USA)-Strawberry Girl (USA) by Strawberry Road (AUS)) won six races, including the Wakefield Challenge Stakes-Gr.2, and his best representatives so far include T.J. Smith Stakes-Gr.1 winner Rockdale and the New Zealand Derby-Gr.1 runner-up Down the Road, who won the Championship Stakes-Gr.2 in his lead up to the Blue Riband event. “ He leaves big, strong horses who need a bit of time and he’s lacked numbers in his second and third years, but his biggest crop has just turned three. They sold up to $NZ100,000 at Karaka as well, so again off a $NZ6000 fee there’s great value there.” Among his current flag bearers is the promising Sydney gelding Road to Summer, multiple winner Danrose and Jackthelad, who was a juvenile winner at Ellerslie last season and has since been sold to Hong Kong. The latest addition to the team is Zabeel’s 2yo stakeswinning son (one of only three males) Sufficient (NZ) (ex Fleur de Chine by Centaine (AUS)). “ He’s by a champion stallion, he’s an outstanding looking horse and he’s really stamping his foals,” Gillovic said. Sufficient also boasts an impressive female pedigree with his dam Fleur de Chine the winner of the Taranaki 2YO Classic-Gr.2 and she in turn has also produced Australasian Oaks-Gr.1 winner Tully Thunder. “ You won’t find a fault in his pedigree,” Gillovic said. Highview will consign 20 yearlings to Karaka in 2012 with a colt by Pentire and a Darci Brahma filly headlining the Premier Sale draft. The former is out of the High Yield mare Diva in Red, who is a half-sister to the Eskimo Stakes-LR winner The Mikado and the multiple Hong Kong winner and Group performer Brilliant Chapter. The daughter of Darci Brahma is out of Starrystarrynight, a Sadler’s Wells mare who won in Ireland and New Zealand. Danroad figures prominently in the Select draft with an outstanding filly out of the Bluebird Foods Trophy-Gr.2 winner Dopff, who has left the Manawatu Classic-Gr.3 winner Valpolicella and the Brisbane Cup-Gr.1 runner up Octapussy. The farm also has high hopes for Danroad’s daughter out of the Sadler’s Wells mare Make Me Dream who is the dam of the stakes winners A Chance to Dream and Fast Love, plus the multiple winner Kiwi Hussler and the mare Fast Love, who won the Warstep Stakes-LR last season. Align, Sakhee’s Secret, Bachelor Duke and Guillotine youngsters will also be presented during K2. Highview, home to a broodmare band of 40 mares and a similar number of boarders, encompasses 120ha (300 acres) of prime undulating dairy farm land in the heart of the Waikato. Post and rail fenced, the property also provides an outstanding agistment base for clients’ horses. It also features an 1100m track with associated facilities for breaking-in, pre-training and training. “ That’s become a successful and vital part of the operation and we’ve usually got about 20 in work. A lot of those are for Asian clients and are eventually finding their way up to Hong Kong and Singapore.” ■ HIGHVIEW STUD www.highview.co.nz NZ Premier 2011 results Offered: 5 Sold: 5 Average: $103,000 Top Price: $140,000 , Choisir-Diva In Red colt, Heinrich Bloodstock, QLD 1544 Kakaramea Rd, RD10, Hamilton Contact: Brent Gillovic Mobile: (64) 21 921 467 Phone: (64) 7 8252 649 Fax: (64) 7 8252 647 Email: firstname.lastname@example.org .nz KARAKA 2012 YEARLING SALE PREVIEW KARAKA 2012 57 164 Brown Colt Pentire (GB) x Diva in Red (AUS) 460 Bay Filly Darci Brahma x Starrystarrynight (IRE) 522 Bay Colt Danroad (AUS) x Very English 567 Bay Colt Danroad (AUS) x Amazing Feeling (AUS) 595 Chestnut Colt Danroad (AUS) x Beaver 642 Chestnut Colt Align (AUS) x Clafouti (AUS) 693 Brown Filly Danroad (AUS) x Dopff 768 Brown Filly Align (AUS) x Go Norn 773 Bay Colt Align (AUS) x Grosvenaire 801 Brown Colt Danroad (AUS) x Ishkala 839 Bay Colt Bachelor Duke (USA) x Lady Cherokee (USA) 882 Bay Filly Danroad (AUS) x Make Me Dream (IRE) 897 Chestnut Filly Sakhee's Secret (GB) x Middlebrook (AUS) 916 Brown Colt Danroad (AUS) x Montwest 918 Bay or Brown Colt Align (AUS) x Mulensky 941 Bay Colt Danroad (AUS) x Olufsen 1048 Brown Filly Guillotine x Slinky Planet 1049 Bay Colt Danroad (AUS) x Snadame (AUS) 1087 Bay Colt Danroad (AUS) x Steingrubler 1095 Chestnut Filly Danroad (AUS) x Sunday Whisper (AUS) KARAKA 2012 DRAFT PREMIER DRAFT SELECT DRAFT Sufficient M.K.
