Bluebloods : Karaka 2012 Yearling Sale Preview
KARAKA 2012 YEARLING SALE PREVIEW 52 T MARK and Denny Baker’s Te Kauwhata farm will enjoy its biggest presence yet at the top level off the back of another impressive 12 months for graduates. “ We’ve had some terrific sales and only got pipped by a few thousand as the Premier sale leader on average earlier this year and we’ve had a steady stream of black type horses and a lot of other good winners since then,” Mark Baker said. Among them is the Easter Cup-Gr.3 at Caufield winner Paddy O’Reilly, who also placed in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes-Gr.3 and the Cranbourne Cup-LR , while at home Testa Secret has been to the fore in prestige races. She won the Castletown Stakes-LR at two and has placed in the Gold Trail Stakes-Gr.3 and the Wanganui Fillies’ and Ryder Stakes at Listed level. Banchee has also continued her impressive form at Group level. Hallmark has also seen several other young performers make an impact to signal their progression to stakes class is imminent. Highly regarded stayer Noble Park and Heza Playboy have impressed in Australia while Knight’s Command and Newyork Bakerboy are a pair of exciting home candidates. Taking pride of place in the Premier draft this time is a sister to the Champion Three Year Old Katie Lee, purchased for $NZ340,000 from Hallmark in 2008. The daughter of Pins created turf history when she triumphed in both the New Zealand 1000 and 2000 Guineas. “She is an outstanding, big scopey filly,” Baker said. “She’s very correct and uses herself the same way her two champion sisters did and she obviously has huge broodmare residual”, he added. Hallmark Stud went close to ending the 2011 Premier Sale at Karaka as the leading vendor on average and has increased numbers and a depth of quality to lodge another strong challenge for top honours in 2012. VENDORS HALLMARK STUD Draft has depth of quality Banchee T.D.
