Bluebloods : Feb 2011 Issue - Sale Previews
SEAN and Cathy Dingwall have spread their young thoroughbred talent far and wide in the coming weeks with quality consignments to be presented at the Melbourne Premier Sale and the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale. "We've got a really nice group for Melbourne and some lovely types for Adelaide as well, where we've had some successful times," Cathy Dingwall said. Under their Caithness Breeding banner, the couple will offer a nine strong draft in Melbourne with three fillies expected to sell particularly well: "The two by Royal Academy are really nice individuals and so is the Hardasun," she said. One of Royal Academy's daughters is out of Alisa Free (Favorite Trick), who is a half-sister to the Gr.1 winner Rockabubble from the family of the Caulfield Guineas winner Chortle, while the other is out of the winning Favorite Trick mare Meru Hill, a daughter of Blue Diamond Prelude-Gr.3 winner Freedom Fields, with stakes winners Liberty Rose, Kanzan and Tantra (also by Royal Academy) featuring in her pedigree. The Haradasun filly is out of Siren of the Nile (Desert King), a half-sister to the black type winner and Gr.1 performer Cargo Cult, while a half-brother to two winners by Dylan Thomas (ex Get the Hint by Zabeel) is expected to make an early impact at the auction (Lot 5): "He's a big, strong colt and the Hard Spun is another cracker," Cathy said. He is out of Vicwood Fashion (Bahhare), a half-sister to the Hong Kong Gr.3 winner Our Class from the family of VRC Derby-Gr.1 winner Lion Tamer. Caithness will also offer a Choisir filly out of the multiple-stakes placed winner Citidevil (Citidancer), who has produced five winners from six foals to race. The Melbourne team is completed by daughters of Testa Rossa (ex Silken Senorita by Mi Selecto) and Holy Roman Emperor (ex Senorita by Brocco and from the family of Snippets) and a son of Keep The Faith (ex Krystyna Bertolini by Bertolini) and Oratorio (from multiple winner Mystic Melody, by Magic Ring). Adelaide has proved a fertile selling ground for Caithness with the Carbine Club Stakes-Gr.3 winner Dr Doute's and the multiple winner Show Bling among the stud's success stories. "We've had some really nice sales and we've got another good quality draft of 22, with the Oratorio colt probably the pick of them," Cathy said. He is a half-brother to two winners out of the American-bred mare Volavola (Easy Goer). The Hard Spun filly out of the stakeswinning mare Maybe McLaren (Secret Savings) is also highly rated. She boasts an international pedigree and is from the family of the Newmarket Dewhurst Stakes winner Ribofilio and the Haydock Sprint Cup-Gr.1 winner Lavinia Fontana. A Keep The Faith colt is out of a half-sister to the Gr.1 winner Summer Beau from the family of the Australian Guineas winner De Lago Brom, while the son of Mossman is out of the winning Spinning World mare Nashita. "He's a strong, neat colt and the Dylan Thomas filly out of Broker's Destiny (Danzig Connection) is another cracking individual," Cathy said. A half-sister to two winners, she is out of a half-sister to the Blue Diamond Stakes-Gr.1 winner Canonise. The stud's Adelaide draft will also feature youngsters by the proven stallions Tale of The Cat, Lion Heart, Dane Shadow, Reset, Planchet, Brief Truce, Mossman, Choisir and Ustinov, along with Keep the Faith and Marmottan. The Gr.1 winners Hard Spun (King's Bishop Stakes), Host (Keeneland Turf Mile) and Soldier's Tale (Golden Jubilee Stakes) are freshmen sires to be represented in the Caithness draft for SA.
