Bluebloods : Feb 2011 Issue - Sale Previews
February 2011 24 TOOLOOGANVALE FARM will be looking to continue a successful selling trend at the Melbourne Premier Sale after outstanding results at the past two editions of the Inglis auction at Oaklands. "Last year we sold a Snitzel colt for $170,000 to Troy Corstens and he's going really well, and the year before we got $180,000 for a Lonhro youngster," Geoff Harris said. The Scone establishment will offer four choice lots this time around, including a pair of fillies by proven sources of excellence in Fastnet Rock and Dehere. The former is out of the winning Desert King mare Desert Marauder, a daughter of the Sweet Embrace Stakes-Gr.3 winner Postage Due (Luskin Star). "She's a lovely bodied filly and a big, strong individual," Geoff said. The Lightning Stakes-Gr.1 and Oakleigh Plate-Gr.1 winner Fastnet Rock needs no introduction as a sire of stakes performers and his daughter is from a prolific family. It features the VRC Oaks winner Faint Perfume, the Australian Oaks winner Danendri and the 1000 Guineas winner Copperama on the pedigree page. The chestnut filly by the American Gr.1 winner and international sire success Dehere is a half-sister to two multiple winners, with their dam being the Marscay mare Royal Taboo. The second dam has produced four winners including two stakes placed runners and is a half-sister to the Listed Christmas Cup winner Mountebank, with Dane Ripper Stakes-Gr.3 winner Vietnam also prominent in this family. Stakes winner and sire Snippetson is the sire of a colt from the Umatilla mare Yakama, whose eight wins featured the Herbert Power Handicap-Gr.2. "He's a really nice colt and Mark Kavanagh has got two half-brothers to him going really well." One of them Just Sioux Me (Refuse To Bend) is already a winner and city runner-up and this family has performed internationally with the US Gr.2 winner Ghazwan within its ranks. Completing Toolooganvale's team to Melbourne is a half-brother by the former crack galloper and exciting new season sire Haradasun to the Birthday Card Handicap-Gr.3 winner Imana, also a multiple placegetter at Gr.2 level. They are out of the winning Zabeel mare Zarissa, a daughter of stakes winner Royal Pay and this pedigree features the black type gallopers Dutyful, Locum Tenens and City Affair. Owned by the Harris family, who supervise every aspect of the farm's operations, Toolooganvale encompasses more than 243ha (600 acres) of prime, well-irrigated Hunter Valley real estate. The family's range of services includes walking on mares to all Hunter Valley stallion farms, foaling down, rearing foals, sales preparations and agistment. Two special residents confirm the high regard industry figures have for the property and its services as the farm is home to the outstanding sprinter Miss Andretti (Lightning Stakes, Mainkato Stakes, Newmarket Handicap, Australia Stakes, VRC Stakes, King's Stand Stakes) and the 2002 Golden Slipper heroine Calaway Gal. Miss Andretti's first foal by Exceed And Excel was recently offered at the Magic Millions Sale by Toolooganvale and was knocked down to trainer Lee Freedman for $460,000. One of the farm's leading graduates in the past 12 months is Fastnet Rock's talented son Éclair Fastpass. He won and was stakes placed in Australia before his transfer to Singapore, where he has added a further three victories to his record and is being set for future Group assignments.
