Bluebloods : Feb 2011 Issue - Sale Previews
REDBANK NORTH has enjoyed excellent results at the Melbourne Premier Sale in recent times and the family owned and operated farm again has high hopes for its small but select consignment. The stud will present two youngsters by the international Gr.1 winner and sire Choisir, and a pair of colts by the exciting Gr.1 winner and sire Show a Heart as agent on behalf of Jacob Park Thoroughbreds. "Last year we sold a filly by Encosta De Lago for $160,000 and in 2009 a half-brother to our Choisir colt, by Rock of Gibraltar, made $100,000," Dimity Middleton said. In 2008, Dimity returned to work full time at Redbank North, which was purchased by her parents James and Fiona in 1979. After completing her studies in business and sports management, she worked as an administrator for Star Thoroughbreds at Tulloch Lodge (Gai Waterhouse), and as a sports and event co- ordinator for the Australian Stock Horse Society, also gaining international work experience at the Keeneland and Saratoga sales and with polo horses in England and New Zealand. Redbank North is situated on 526 undulating hectares (1300 acres) and for the past three decades it has proved the ideal environment for spelling thoroughbreds and broodmare care. Due to its success, the operation was expanded 10 years ago and in 2007 an additional 90ha (220 acres) of Murrumbidgee river flats were acquired. Located at Harden on the south west slopes of New South Wales, the properties offer spelling, broodmare and foal agistment, weaning and handling, weanling and yearling services, foaling down and sales preparations. The Redbank North team has particularly high Melbourne hopes for the Choisir colt (Lot 552) who is out of Ferrari Bo (Perugino), a sister to the six time Gr.1 winner, former champion Australian sprinter and successful sire Testa Rossa. "He's a really striking horse and a true professional. He was just a lovely type, right from a foal and one of the nicest horses we've offered," Dimity said. The daughter of Choisir is out of the Canny Lad mare Knotty, who won twice and she is a sister to the multiple winner and stakes performer Crafty. Most notably this is the family of the Golden Rose-Gr.1 winner Toorak Toff and the Sandown Guineas winner Blixen. This filly carries doubles of Biscay (4fx4m) and Lunchtime (3fx4f). Redbank North will also be offering a pair of colts by the Caulfield Guineas winner Show a Heart on behalf of Danny McMillan's Jacob Park Thoroughbreds. The thoroughbred breeding operation comprises two properties near Canberra and also features AQIS approved quarantine facilities. The first of Jacob Park's lots is a chestnut out of the Grand Lodge mare Grand Society (Lot 10), who won three times and was stakes placed. She is a winner-producer of the promising General Jay Dee and is a half-sister to Zarevic and Guiscard, who are both multiple winners of black type events with the latter also boasting a fourth in the Newmarket Handicap-Gr.1 to his credit. The other Show A Heart colt is a son of the winning Favorite Trick mare Rififi. The second dam by Bluebird has left six winners, including the stakes performer Zinzin, and this is also the family of the black type winner Fast Talker.
