Bluebloods : Feb 2011 Issue - Sale Previews
February 2011 18 COLTS by Show a Heart, Nadeem and Churchill Downs are tipped to play starring roles for Flinders Park Stud during the Melbourne Premier Sale. The Victorian farm will offer a nine strong draft and the youngsters have been bred and reared in an ideal thoroughbred environment: "We're about 20 km from Hastings, right on the bottom part of the coast and opposite Phillip Island," manager Michael Cumming said. "It's pretty much green all year around here and a great place to grow yearlings." The 36ha (90 acre) property is owned by Brian and Darren Coyle, with dual Gr.1 Australian Cup and Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Pompeii Ruler the stud's most notable graduate. "We've been in operation six or seven years and we've got a band of half-sisters to Pompeii Ruler we breed from, and keep about 12 mares in total," Darren Coyle said. "We breed and do sales preparations, agistment and spelling, and Michael does a top job." The Melbourne Premier-bound son of Show A Heart is a half-brother to two winners and is out of the Danehill mare Rapturous who is a daughter of the South Australian Oaks-Gr.1 winner Heavenly Body. "He's a lovely, big strong colt and looks a really precocious type," Michael said. He hails from the family of the Gr.2 winners and sires Cossack Prince and Cossack Warrior. The colt by the Blue Diamond Stakes winner Nadeem is out of Myskina (Xaar), a half-sister to the Oakleigh Plate-Gr.1 winner Miss Kournikova and the MRC Guineas-Gr.3 winner Tirade, who was also a stakes winner in Macau. "He's a strong and early running type," Michael said. Flinders Park will also present a half-brother to four winners by The Galaxy-Gr.1 winner and first season sire Magnus. The colt is out of the Widden Stakes-LR- winning Marauding mare Empower, who was also runner-up in the Magic Night Stakes-Gr.2. The farm's first session team is completed by a Holy Roman Emperor filly out of the Geiger Counter mare Saturated, a half-sister to Pompeii Ruler. This is also the family of the South Australian Oaks winner Derobe. Michael rates the son of Churchill Downs as the stand out lot in the session two consignment. "He's a big colt with plenty of scope and he's out of a proven mare who keeps leaving really good types." His dam is the Umatilla mare Matilla and she has produced four winners, including King Carnage who has nine victories to his credit. The Elvstroem colt is out of the Seattle Dancer mare Taleer, winner of five races including the Tasmanian Oaks and Strutt Stakes at Listed level. This is also the family of the Caulfield Guineas and AJC Sires' Produce Stakes winner and successful sire St Covet. The son of God's Own from the winning Bluebird mare Northwood Lady, is a half-brother to five winners, while the God's Own-Clever Clogs (Woodman) colt is a half-brother to a pair of multiple winners (one stakes placed), and the pedigree also features the English Derby winner Secreto. The Flinders Park draft is completed by a daughter of the dual Gr.1-winning American sprinter and first season sire Henny Hughes. The filly is a half-sister to a winner with their dam the Palace Music mare Aguilera who is a half-sister to the Blue Diamond Prelude-Gr.3 winner Irises. It is also the family of the dual Gr.3 winner and Gr.1 runner-up Taikun as well as Our Planet and Gypsy Kingdom.
