Bluebloods : Feb 2011 Issue - Sale Previews
3mx4m cross of champion two year-old and sire Blushing Groom and is a "beautiful type" from the family of Walk Alone, Deltona and Been There. Her first three dams are by Quest For Fame, Marauding and Crown Jester and she traces to Melbourne Cup winner Rainbird. The current king of the sire roster at Armidale is another equine blue blood in the shape of Savoire Vivre (GB), a Gr.2 placed son of European Champion sire Sadler's Wells and the English Triple Crown (1000 Guineas, Oaks, St Leger) winner Oh So Sharp (by Kris), a direct descendant of the flying Mumtaz Mahal. The sire of 85 winners (56%) of $4.1m since retiring to stud in 2002, he made an immediate impact when his first crop runners put him in third place on the national list for sires of juveniles. His 10 stakes performers include Life to the Full (11 wins and $470,000 including the Balaklava Cup-LR), Rustia (seven wins, including six wins in seven starts at two, Elwick Stakes-LR) and the Tasmanian Guineas-LR winner Vivre la Nett. "The Savoire Vivre-Totness filly is really attractive and athletic. Her dam won six races and is a sister to Weasel Will and half-sister to Dartington and she is only the second living foal of her dam, the first is a two year-old. We are offering the full brother to Life at the Full (ex Sinizzor by Dieu d'Or) for a client and he is a nice colt and the mare's first two foals are winners. The filly from Better Days (Last Tycoon) is from a three-quarter sister to Hong Kong Gr.1 winner Privilege and from the family of Highclere and Height of Fashion, the colt from Black Cent is a half-brother to five winners including stakes placed Mr Buttkicker, and our filly from Mrs Bailey (Ladoni) is from a half-sister to Nuclear Free (10 wins including MRC Tristarc Stakes-Gr.2) and her third dam Millingdale Lillie was a terrific filly at two and three in England." Smart European Miler Tough Speed (USA) (Miswaki- Nature's Magic by Nijinsky), winner of the Park Stakes- Gr.3 at Doncaster, already has 26 winners (52%) led by talented Lyell (six wins and $182,000 including the Tasmanian Guineas-LR) since retiring to stud in 2004. His nine yearlings catalogued include the Armidale-bred filly from Almighty Buzz (Supremeo) who carries a 4mx4m cross of Mr. Prospector and whose dam is a half-sister to stakes winner Martelomeo (dam of Daniades). Robyn Whishaw said this filly "looks a real athlete", while her staff were enthusiastic about the prospects of the fillies from dual winner Rock Chick (Octagonal) and from talented two year-old Arapeho (Telesto), four wins and a daughter of stakes placed Lady Rialton (14 wins). The Arapeho filly has Mr. Prospector 3mx3m. It would be hard to find a better bred stallion anywhere than Armidale's Telesto (USA) (Mr. Prospector-Aviance by Northfields), a winner over 6f in England and sire of 46 winners (54.1%) from limited representation including stakes placed Big Brass Band, plus Old Masters (five wins) Stadacona (eight wins) and Copper Rocks (five wins). Telesto is a half-brother to Gr.1 winners Chimes of Freedom (dam of Good Journey, Aldebaran) and Denon and to the dam of Spinning World and his dam is a Gr.1-winning grandaughter of 1982 US Broodmare of the Year Best in Show (fourth dam of Redoute's Choice). Telesto has just three lots in the sale and Armidale's sole representative is a bay colt from dual Tasmanian St Leger winner Dartington (Tertian), a half-sister to Gr.2 winner Weasel Will. Dartington is already the dam of stakes placed Why For, eight wins and runner-up in the Tasmanian Oaks-LR and a daughter of Xaar (another Mr. Prospector-line sire tracing to Best in Show). While there are always plenty of bargains to be had at the Tasmanian sale, this colt could end up being the steal of the sale. Armidale's draft also includes yearlings by Churchill Downs (a filly from Caralowe, whose 2YO Nadeem daughter Triple Asset won the first Tasmanian juvenile race of the season), Artie Schiller (a colt whose second dam is Tasmanian Oaks winner Bellendella Dream and filly from stakes placed Qui Lady, six wins) and God's Own (a filly from the winning Jugah mare Super Jane).
