Bluebloods : Inglis Sydney Classic 2011 Preview
ALION HEART colt in the eight-strong draft from CrowningStone at the Inglis Classic Sale was given a timely international boost recently when his half-brother, Soweto Slew, won a juvenile event at Kenilworth in South Africa. "We sold him at Melbourne and this colt is quite similar in style and very balanced and athletic," Mike Thew said. The two year-old became the sixth winner for his imported dam Rose a Slew (Slew City Slew). Mike also has high sale hopes for colts by Holy Roman Emperor and the proven sprint champion Choisir: "The Holy Roman Emperor is a strong type with good bone and very correct," Mike said. Heisoutofthe winning Red Ransom mare Pre Nup, a half- sister to Gr.3 winner Typhoon Billie, while Choisir's son is out of My Life (Pasakos), a half- sister to the dual Gr.2 winner and top flight performer Station Hand and from the family of the WATC Derby-Gr.1 winner Mr Sandgroper. CrowningStone will present a strong group of fillies, with a daughter of Elusive Quality-Borobodur (Strategic) looking a bright prospect. She is a half-sister to the promising winner Java Jack and the second dam, the imported Daisy Bates (Danehill), has produced three winners, including the VRC Breeders' Stakes-Gr.3 winner Dama De Noche. "She's a particularly nice type, while the Magnus-Kenny's Princess is a tall, lovely forward striding filly," Mike added. She is a half-sister to a pair of multiple winners. A daughter of Choisir is out of the Dehere mare Nanosecond, who is a half-sister to the Listed Pacesetter Stakes winner Langborghini, while the Oratorio filly is out of the stakes placed Hurricane Sky mare Zakuro who won seven times and has a winner and a placegetter to her credit. "Les Bridge has an Al Maher half-brother he's pretty keen on called Zak." Completing the draft is a filly by the dual American Gr.1-winning sprinter Henny Hughes and this yearling is out of the winning Stravinsky mare Steinway Lass. "She's quite typical of the Henny Hughes' and is strong bodied with plenty of bone." Second dam No Alimony won seven times and was Gr.1 placed in the New Zealand Oaks. Mike and his wife Mia operate CrowningStone, Scone and the stud enjoyed an outstanding 2010 Inglis Classic Sale. "We had the highest average with eight or more sold," he said.
