Bluebloods : Inglis Sydney Classic 2011 Preview
BOWNESS STUD's John North is very impressed with the first southern hemisphere crop of Gr.1-winning Danzig son Librettist, and the young sire is represented by a colt and a filly in the stud's draft of 17 for the Inglis Classic Sale in Sydney from January 23-25. "These horses are real Danzigs and have got good bone and natural muscle, not every stallion can get that," John said. The daughter of Librettist is out of winning Night Shift mare Auspicious Day, with the second dam being the Gimcrack Stakes-Gr.3 winner Dandolera (Kaoru Star). "She's a very attractive filly and the colt is a particularly nice individual as well. He's is out of the Tierce mare Trigold, who won four times and was a Gr.2 runner-up." Librettist won twice at Gr.1 level in Europe, including the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp, and has already left a dual Gr.2 winner (Libranno) from his first northern hemisphere crop. "We've also got a lovely colt by Domesday out of Law Demee (Hurricane Sky) and two nice sorts by Strategic," John said. The son of the Silver Slipper winner Domesday (already sire of Gr.1 winner Pressday) is from the family of the multiple Gr.1 winner Slight Chance, who is the dam of five winners including the Gr.3 winner and promising stallion Dane Shadow, while the Strategic colt from Let's Reminisce (Commemorate) is a half-brother to eight winners and his dam is a half-sister to Gr.1 winners Curata Storm and Voile d'Or and Listed winner Imperatrix (also by Strategic). The other Strategic youngster is out of the Danehill Dancer mare Mask Cheval, who won six times, and her dam is a half-sister to the dual Gr.3 winner Dedicated Miss (14 wins). Other yearlings singled out by John for mention include a half-brother by stallion newcomer and dual Gr.1-winning American sprinter Henny Hughes to the Tasmanian 1000 Guineas winner Butzie (third Tasmanian Oaks-LR) and the daughter of Zizou and the Snippets mare Bon Esprit, who hails from the family of the former Australian Horse of the Year and multiple Gr.1 winner Weekend Hussler. Bowness Stud's consignment is completed by sons of Dubawi, Hard Spun and Strada and fillies by Lonhro, Dubawi, Strategic, Haradasun, California Dane and Hard Spun. "We've got a fair bit of variety and something for everyone. There might not be any real stand outs on the catalogue page, but they are all very good types."
