Bluebloods : April 2010
MARK and SHELLEY TREWEEK, of Lyndhurst Farm, Cambridge, vendors of the $800,000 Encosta de Lago colt out of the high class mare Giovana who topped Karaka in 2009, look set for another successful sale, this time at Easter in Sydney. Lyndhurst Farm's draft for the Inglis sale begins with Lot 54, a bay filly by Darci Brahma ex Miss Vandal (by Don't Say Halo). She is bred on the highly successful Northern Dancer/Halo cross, which results in duplications of the wonderful mare Almahmoud (with another strain of her daughter Natalma, third dam of Danehill thrown in) and hails from the first crop of a popular multiple Gr.1 winner whose first yearlings sold very well at Karaka. This filly is a half-sister to the dual Group-winning mare Miss Marielle who was in such great form last spring. Her dam is the Gr.3 mare Miss Vandal, half-sister to the Listed winner Krystal Storm. Lot 107, a bay filly by Encosta de Lago ex Princess Stacey (by End Sweep), is one of the royally bred fillies in the sale. This daughter of a champion stallion is out of a half-sister to the Australian bred South African Gr.1 winner Suntagonal. Her grandam is a winning sister to the South African star Tracy's Element, dam of Typhoon Tracey who at the time of writing had just raced away with the Futurity Stakes-Gr.1. Also from this family are the feature race winners Red Element, Danasinga, Shaft, Topasannah, Cullen, Towkay, Fatal Attraction and successful WA-based stallion Bletchley Park. Like so many of her sire's best runners, she is line-bred to the Kentucky Oaks heroine Lalun. Lot 141 is a chestnut colt by Hussonet ex San Century (by Centaine). The best may still be to come for his sire as he has good crops coming through, both in size and quality. This fellow is a half-brother to four winners including the Listed-winning sprinter Spurcent and the city winner Favoured Saint. His dam is a daughter of the stakes placed Grosvenor mare Sandarac, grandam of the Hong Kong Gr.3 winner Kildare and the New Zealand Listed winner One Love. The Gr.1 winners Sandy's Pleasure and Black Mamba also hail from this family. Lot 199 is a brown colt by Zabeel ex Tall Story (by Carnegie). His sire needs no introduction and his dam is a placed half-sister to the dual Gr.1 winner Tall Poppy. Her first two foals are already winners and she is a daughter of the prolific mare Fun On The Run - winner of 18 races including the Jarden Mile-Gr.1. He boasts an interesting pedigree, his sire and dam sire hailing from the same family - providing a 4fx4f cross of the excellent mare Derna. Another interesting aspect of his pedigree is the appearance of the three- quarter brothers Nureyev and Sadler's Wells - crosses of Northern Dancer and the aptly named matriarch Special.
