Bluebloods : April 2010
April 2010 AREAL family affair," is how Linda Duckworth describes Fairview Park, Grose Wold - the picturesque 60ha (150 acre) property for three decades run by her parents and now by Linda, her husband Ian (an equine vet), and sister Heather. Home to between 20 and 30 resident mares, Fairview is a farm run as a labour of love - the Duckworths enjoying good relationships with their clients and working hard to ensure the wellbeing of their horses. Successful vendors at recent auctions - faring well at this year's Magic Millions and Classic sales - as well as at Easter last year, Fairview has another nice draft for the Newmarket ring in 2010. Lot 49 is a bay filly by Fastnet Rock ex Miraculous Lady (by A.P. Indy). She is by the sire of the moment and the first foal for an imported half-sister to the US dual stakes winner Stormy Temper. Grandam is a daughter of the Gr.3 mare Cinegita, dam of the Japanese Gr.3 winner Syourinomegami and the Newmarket Gr.3 winner Storm Star, dam of the US Gr.3 winner Dodge and the Listed winner Captain Starbuck. This is very much an international family, its members also including the US Champion 2Y0 Filly Flanders, dam of the US Champion 3Y0 Filly Surfside. "She is a very nice filly, very elegant," said Linda. Lot 154, a bay colt by Snitzel from Shalimar Sky (by Hurricane Sky), is by the sire of flying filly Chance Bye. He is the second foal of a Listed-winning, half- sister to the stakes placed Sir Xaar. A descendant of the acclaimed matriarch Cinna, he hails from the same family as the legendary Dulcify and the SA Oaks-Gr.1 winner Cimarra. He boasts a fascinating pedigree with six crosses of Northern Dancer (three via Nijinsky), two of Bletchingly and a 4fx3m duplication of Dancing Show, grandam of Redoute's Choice and dam of Hurricane Sky. "Snitzel is going so well and he is an impressive colt." Lot 523 is a chestnut colt by Show A Heart ex Calaluna (by Mujahid). His sire continues to perform and this fellow is the first foal of a multiple city-winning mare who was twice successful at two. Calaluna's half- brother is the stakes placed Kyros, while her dam is a half-sister to the Australian Champion 2Y0 Victory Vein (AJC Sires' Produce Stakes-Gr.1, Champagne Stakes-Gr.1). "Typical of the Show A Heart breed, he is very racy." Lot 570, a bay colt by Reset ex Lucky Lady (by Nashwan), is by the sire of rising star Set For Fame. This colt is a half-brother to three winners including the Gr.2 placed Lustre Lady and the good Hong Kong performer So Pretty So Smart. Dam is an imported winning daughter of the English Oaks-Gr.1 heroine Jet Ski Lady, grandam of the stakes winner Legal Approach. Boasting four strains of the prolific Feola family of which he is a member (Round Table, Nashwan and Aureole all related), he has as his third dam the Gr.2 mare Bemissed. "A really nice type, big and strong." FAIRVIEW PARK HORSES come first at this family-run property Presents Four High Quality Yearlings for Easter 2010...
