Bluebloods : April 2010
April 2010 INGLIS AUSTRALIAN EASTER YEARLING SALE CRESSFIELD is one of the Hunter Valley's finest boutique farms and its paddocks are home to some of Australia's best-performed and well-related broodmares. Manager Wayne Bedggood has done a great job building up an elite band of mares, and their strength is reflected in the quality of the stud's Easter draft. Lot 98, a bay filly by Redoute's Choice ex Personify (by Galileo), is the first foal of a stakeswinning mare who was sold as a broodmare two years ago for $2m. Successful at two, she is one of six winners produced by the wonderful mare Procrastinate, Gr.3 winning dam of the South African champ Laissefaire (five Gr.1 victories) and the local Listed winners Foreplay (whose first crop are faring so well) and Time Thief. Another of her winners in Trephina is dam of the Gr.3 winners Centennial Park and Ballack. Lot 129, a bay colt by Redoute's Choice ex River Dove (by Hurricane Sky), is the second foal of a high class mare who won eight races including the Oakleigh Plate-Gr.1. Her first foal is Dove Lake, a three-quarter sister to this fellow, who won impressively at her Warwick Farm debut in late February. Grandam is the Listed winner Ride the Rapids, grandam of the stakes winners Cross Current and First Command and last December's Hong Kong International Sprint-Gr.1 runner-up One World. Boasts a fascinating pedigree with three crosses of Bletchingly and Northern Dancer and a 3fx3m cross of the excellent broodmare Dancing Show (grandam of Redoute's Choice and dam of Hurricane Sky). Lot 183 is a bay filly by Flying Spur ex Star Satire (by Volksraad). Her sire and dam are bred on the same Danzig/Sir Ivor cross and her Gr.1-winning dam has made a great start to her stud career with her first runner being the exciting New Zealander Zarzuela, winner of three Group races in a row, and at the time of writing favourite for the NZ Derby-Gr.1. From the family of the Gr.1 winners Silver Wraith, Silver Nymph and Ray's Hope, she carries duplications of the fine mares Natalma and Somethingroyal. Lot 337 is a grey filly by Flying Spur ex Casigris (by Cozzene). Her dam is an imported, stakes placed, winning half-sister to the Royal Ascot Gr.3 winner Landowner, who also won at Flemington. A half-sister to the Melbourne- winning juvenile Porsched (progressing nicely in Hong Kong), this filly hails from the same female line as her highly successful sire - being bred on a 7fx4f cross of the fine mare Reply. Lot 345, a bay colt by Redoute's Choice ex Champagne (by Zabeel), is by a champion sire out of one of the best race mares of the 1990s. The winner of seven races including the Mackinnon Stakes-Gr.1 and the Ansett Australia Stakes-Gr.1, she was also a gutsy and close second in the Melbourne Cup-Gr.1. Her first five foals to race are winners, including the Listed winners Martique and Nadedge (successful in Listed level in February) and the metropolitan winners Crums and Brut Force. Champagne is a sister to the NZ Derby-Gr.1/Zabeel Classic-Gr.1 winner St Reims. Lot 358, a bay filly by Redoute's Choice ex Countess Christie (by Marscay), is a three-quarter sister to the stakes winner I Have No Fear and out of a dual Group-winning daughter of the imported Listed winner Brilliantdeduction. This is a prolific international family, whose members include the local stakes winners Clever Zoe and Dual Hemisphere. Lot 428, a chestnut filly by Flying Spur ex Flouze (by Zabeel), is the first foal of a stakes placed daughter of The Galaxy-Gr.1 winner La Baraka, dam of the Gr.2 winning sprinter Alizes. Third dam is the great mare Triscay, five times Gr.1-winning dam of seven winners including the Gr.2 winner Tsuimai. Lot 542 is a bay filly by Snitzel ex Erin Bee (by Anabaa). Her grandsire Redoute's Choice and dam are bred on the same Danzig/NijinskyI cross, and there are six crosses of Northern Dancer in her pedigree. Half-sister to the metropolitan winner Green Crusader, out of a dual city- winning, half-sister to Motspur who raced away with the Falvelon Quality-LR in late February. Third dam Silk Lily is a half-sister to the famed mare Fanfreluche - ancestress of Encosta de Lago and Flying Spur. Bedggood, a member of the Arrowfield team for some 15 years before being afforded the opportunity to head up Cressfield, is thrilled to be part of a strong team: The aim at Cressfield, he explained is "to have 25 of the very best mares and be in the top 10% at the major sales. And the stud is a major chance to achieve that this very Easter.
