Bluebloods : April 2010
LOCATED at the foot of the Blue Mountains in the picturesque Grose Valley, Carramar Park, founded in 1989 by Wayne and Pauline Alchin, is home to three lovely Easter bound yearlings. "All", says Pauline, "outstanding types with excellent temperaments"; and Pauline knows just what a nice yearling is as she and her husband have sold successfully at Easter several years running. In fact last year they fared extra well with a $380,000 Shamardal half-brother to Sunline. Other Easter success stories for Carramar include a $150,000 Tale of the Cat half-sister to Miss Marielle (Miss June, a winner at only her second start) and a $200,000 Tale of the Cat half-sister to Wild Iris. The couple also sold at the recent Inglis Classic and were thrilled with the results. "We had a fantastic sale, of our draft of 17 we sold 15," she said. Among those was a $130,000 Snitzel filly and an $80,000 Starcraft filly. Carramar Park doesn't often advertise, the couple happy to rely on word of mouth to increase business: "To us it is the best way of confirming the quality of our services," Pauline said. "That way we have ended up with a really nice group of clients." The stud's Easter yearlings include Lot 360, a bay filly by More Than Ready ex Crave (by Grand Lodge), who is by an outstanding sire of 64 stakes winners. This filly is a half-sister to the promising New Zealand-based three year-old Tanha Strike (two wins from four starts) and out of a city-winning, half-sister to the durable four times stakes winner Upwards and the stakes placed Airs 'N' Graces. Grandam is the Listed winner Aspirations, a sister to the stakes winner Balmoral (dam of the Listed winner Grampians). It is the family of the dual Gr.1- winning juvenile Victory Vein and the stakes winners Hissy Fit and Thunder Bird. "She is built very much in the mould of her sire, very strong and a lovely walker," Pauline said. Lot 511, a bay colt by Flying Spur ex Zapeace (by Zabeel), is by one of Danehill's finest sons, the sire of 72 stakes winners. His Gr.3-winning dam's first three foals are all winners including the dual city winner Zarock. A descendant of the famed matriarch Eulogy and boasting duplications of Northern Dancer, Natalma and Sir Ivor, he is bred on the same Flying Spur/Zabeel cross as the stakes winners November Flight, Rasmussen and Flying Fulton. "He is a good mix of his sire and dam sire, a really nice type." Lot 513, a bay filly by Rock of Gibraltar ex Antonicheva (by Sadler's Wells), is by a champion racehorse and successful sire (48 stakes winners) out of a mare by a sire legend. She is a half-sister to the lightly raced and promising Morning Kookaburra. Grandam is the French stakes winner Ionian Sea, dam of eight winners including the Gr.1 placed gallopers The Great Gatsby, Margritte and Roman Empress. Boasting three crosses of Northern Dancer, this filly hails from the family of the Gr.1 winners Sakhee, Pressing, Mastercraftsman, River Memories, Exceller and Broad Brush. "She is like her sire, big and scopey."
