Bluebloods : April 2010
AMARINA FARM at Denman has earned an Australia-wide reputation for its high standards in yearling preparation with its graduates including Gallica, Miss Marielle, The Heckler and Krupt. Amarina boasts a particularly strong 2010 Easter Sale draft with yearlings by proven stallions such as Exceed and Excel, Fastnet Rock, Redoute's Choice, Rock of Gibraltar, Pins, Anabaa, More Than Ready, Stravinsky, Lonhro and Hussonet, along with yearlings by up and comers like Holy Roman Emperor, Elvstroem and Nadeem as well as two colts by the outstanding US-based sire Dynaformer. Last year's leading American sire of Gr.1 winners, Dynaformer (Roberto) has been ranked in the top three US stallions for eight of the past nine years. The ill-fated champ Barbaro is the best known of his progeny but he has sired 14 other Gr.1 winners and such is Dynaformer's reputation that he stands for $US150,000, with his 2009 yearlings averaging above $US290,000. Lot 35 is the first of his colts through the ring and he is the second foal of the Kingmambo mare Madcap, a half-sister to the dual stakes winner Gold Streamer. This fellow's grandam is a half-sister to the US Champion Filly Sacahuista, dam of the Gr.1 winner and sire Ekraar and the champion sire Hussonet. Described by Amarina staff as "a short backed quality individual with plenty of leg," he carries crosses of the great stallions Nashua and Ribot and the fine mares Mumtaz Begum and Flower Bowl. Lot 250 the second of the Dynaformers, is the first foal for the imported Gone West mare West of Katrina, a half-sister to the Gr.1 winner Yes It's True. Hailing from a strong American family, he is "a very attractive colt with a potential stallion pedigree". The rest of Amarina's draft also contains plenty of depth. Lot 74 is a chestnut filly by Rock of Gibraltar ex Nevermore (by Unbridled) and her Gr.1 placed dam's first two to race are showing good ability. This yearling's second dam is the stakes winner Teewinot. This yearling is described as "a strong heavy set filly with a great forearm". Lot 80, "a robust type typical of his sire line", is a chestnut colt by Hussonet from One In A Million (by Redoute's Choice). He is the second foal of a Gr.2- placed, city-winning daughter of the stakes winner Happen, a sister to the Listed winner Major. Lot 88, "a neat, well balanced individual", is a brown colt by Nadeem ex Patterns (by Success Express). He is out of a Gr.3 winner from the family of the stakes winners Pride of Kellina and Candy Is Dandy and traces to Star Ocean (a sister to Todman and Noholme).
