Bluebloods : Inglis Sydney Classic
WHAT a lovely draft of Classic yearlings Holbrook Thoroughbreds at Scone has on offer on January 24 and 25! Julie Harris has prepared four well-related youngsters by the reliable Beautiful Crown and four others by some of Australia's most exciting young stallions. Lot 39 is a bay colt by Beautiful Crown from Enchanted Angel (by Rory's Jester). By one of the country's most consistent stallions, who boasts a 68% winners to runners strike rate and had 336 winners (9SW) to early December for career earnings of $17.8m, this yearling is a three-quarter brother to the Caulfield Guineas-Gr.1 winner In Top Swing out of a Listed winning juvenile whose five to race have all been winners including the metropolitan class gallopers Our Beacon and Padlock. Lot 182 is a chestnut filly by Stratum from My Dear (by Dehere). Carrying four strains of Northern Dancer, she hails from the second crop of Redoute's Choice's handsome Golden Slipper Stakes-Gr.1 winner. She is the second foal produced by a city-winning mare whose dam is a half-sister to the three times Gr.1 winner Kinjite. Fourth dam is the champion Wenona Girl, and other members of this family include the black type winners Special Girl, Dazzling Diamonds, Hazard and Scaredee Cat. Lot 191 is a bay filly by Beautiful Crown from No Faking (by Telesto). She is the second foal of an unraced mare whose dam Leica Bridge is a half-sister to the stakes winner Tell Fibs. She hails from the prolific "Leica" family, whose members include the big race winners Redding, Leica Smile, Light Fantastic, Nothin' Leica Dane, Leica Lover, Leica Planet, Pharaoh and Leica Guv. A highlight of this pedigree is a 6fx6f cross of the influential Almahmoud, via her descendants Northern Dancer and Gleam Machine. Lot 237 is a bay filly by Danzero from Proposing (by Pentire). By a sire and dam bred on the same Northern Dancer/Star Kingdom cross, this filly is out of a lightly raced sister to the dual Group winner Zanna. Her grandam is the stakeswinning Truly Vain mare Posing, half-sister to the NZ 1000 Guineas-Gr.1 winner Ad Alta. This is the flourishing "Heights" family, whose members include the feature race winners Battle Heights, Sky Heights, Noble Heights, Mapperley Heights, Royal Heights, Weekend Hussler and Viewed. Lot 262 is a brown colt by Beautiful Crown from Sabihah (by Snippets). His dam is a three-quarter sister to the stakes placed Adelaide Magic Millions winner Truly Beautiful from the family of the multiple Gr.1 winner Bounty Hawk. A descendant of the fine mare Our Liz (also ancestress of the successful stallions Quest For Fame and Marauding), he is bred on a 5mx7m of the great mare Somethingroyal via her influential sons Secretariat and Sir Gaylord. Lot 373 is a bay colt by Beautiful Crown from Western Show (by Best Western). Bred on the successful Danzig/Biscay cross, he is a brother to the Listed winner Western Beau and the multiple city winner Assertive. Out of an unraced half-sister to the stakes winner Bright Kite, his grandam is a sister to the champion mare Toy Show. Lot 419 is a bay colt by Starcraft from Arathea (by Barathea). His globe-trotting sire has made an encouraging start to his stud career with early winner Star Witness in Australia and stakes winner Don't Tell Mary in Europe, and this fellow is out of a four times- winning city-placed half-sister to the triple Gr.1 winning sprinter/miler Al Mansour. A grandson of the stakeswinning Bletchingly mare Classic Victory, he is bred on a 4mx5f cross of the aptly named mare Special, via her son Nureyev and grandson Sadler's Wells. Lot 513 is a chestnut filly by Choisir from Cool Deal (by Zedrich). Her sire has been in great form this season - the Caulfield Guineas-Gr.1 hero Starspangledbanner his star of the moment. This lass is the first foal for an unraced daughter of the stakes winner Cool Business, sister to the Gr.3 winner Hot Shot Brother and half-sister to the dam of the multiple Group winner Marasco. Melbourne Cup-Gr.1 champ Rogan Josh also hails from this prolific family. January 2010 19 HOLBROOK'S EIGHT include four by Beautiful Crown Holbrook Thoroughbreds, Scone - A Quality Classic Draft...
