Bluebloods : Inglis Sydney Classic
WHAT an outstanding stallion is the Golden Slipper winner Canny Lad (Bletchingly-Jesmond Lass by Lunchtime). Year in, year out he is represented by durable, classy and honest gallopers - his statistics reading as well as any more expensive stallion. Boasting a winners-to-runners strike rate not far short of 67%, he is the ideal stallion for yearling buyers. Canny Lad gets a large percentage of his progeny to the track and 44 of his sons and daughters are stakes winners including the Gr.1 winners Accomplice, Dodge, Republic Lass, He's No Pie Eater, Calveen, Cannsea, Preserve, Ancient Song and Allez Suez. Also excelling as a broodmare sire (his name likely to live on for generations through Redoute's Choice), Canny Lad - this year serving his 19th book of mares at Darley's Kelvinside - has enjoyed another good season with 25 individual winners including the exciting King Pulse. Regarded by trainer Michael Moroney as one of the best sprinters he has ever trained, three year-old King Pulse quickly rose through the ranks during the spring - debuting with a 4.75 length victory at Geelong before a strong Caulfield victory and an Oh! So close! second to Headway in the Ascot Vale Stakes- Gr.1 down the Flemington straight at just his third start. King Pulse is an Inglis Classic Sale graduate, and fans of Canny Lad will be keen to inspect another of his sons at that very sale in late January. Being sold by Fairview Park Stud (as agent) as Lot 428 and available for inspection in stable 4, row C, this mid-October foaled bay is the second foal produced by the excellent race mare Ausbred Blue. A winner three times in Sydney, Ausbred Blue is a daughter of Bluebird, outstanding dam sire of 44 stakes winners. She is a half-sister to the durable Listed winner Ausbred King from the family of the Gr.1 winner Lloyd's Gold (WA Derby) and the stakes winners Trimaran, Knight Bachelor, Rory's Image, Yilgandie Gold and Risky Rancher. Bred on a 3mx4m cross of Biscay, this colt also boasts duplications of the influential matriarchs Mumtaz Begum, Selene and Alcibiades.
