Bluebloods : Magic Millions Preview
IT is quite likely that the 2010 Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions Yearling Sale to be conducted at the Gold Coast sales centre over six sessions, January 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 14, will produce more good winners than any other market. It is easily the biggest collection available in Australia and has the strong support from major breeders. Among the big vendors are nearly all the nationally eminent Hunter Valley studs and agistment farms, namely Amarina, Arrowfield, Attunga Stud, Baerami Thoroughbreds, Baramul, Bellerive, Broads Crossing Farm, Brooklyn Lodge, Coolmore, Cressfield, Edinglassie, Emirates Park, Glastonbury, Goodwood Park, Kitchwin Hills, Kulani Park, Middlebrook Valley Lodge, Monarch, Murrulla Farm, Old Crossing Farm, Patinack Farm, Retreat Farm, Segenhoe, Southern Cross Breeders, Turangga, Vinery, Widden, Willow Park, and Yarraman Park. Other prominent New South Wales breeders represented included John Singleton's Strawberry Hills Stud and Bowness, Corumbene, Bylong Park, Edinburgh Park, Emerald Thoroughbreds, Evergreen Lodge, Fairview Park, Newhaven Park, Orange Grove Thoroughbreds, Reavill Farm, Rheinwood Pastoral, Stratheden, Think Big, Trevannah Farm and Werai Park. Approximately 900 of the 1225 lots catalogued are by Hunter Valley sires including 15 of the leading 20 most successful on earnings for the 2008-09 Australian racing year. Strongly represented, they include five Hunter Valley-used sires who have annexed Australian champion sire titles, the leaders on the general lists on earnings Encosta de Lago (also by numbers), Redoute's Choice (also by juveniles) and Flying Spur (also juveniles) and leading juvenile sires More Than Ready (USA) (twice) and Danzero. The others in the top 20 supplying yearlings to the sale in that honour board were the reliable sources of good horses Commands, Danehill Dancer (IRE), Testa Rossa, Choisir, Danewin, Hussonet (USA), General Nediym (all Hunter Valley), O'Reilly (New Zealand) and Show a Heart (Queensland). Buyers have a huge selection of good, proven sires to choose yearlings from and as well as those mentioned, those used in NSW include Exceed and Excel, Galileo (IRE), Rock of Gibraltar (IRE), Dane Shadow, Anabaa (USA), Lonhro, Beautiful Crown (USA), Elusive Quality (USA), Zeditave, Magic Albert, Tale of the Cat (USA), Fusaichi Pegasus (USA), Dehere (USA), Royal Academy (USA), Secret Savings (USA), Strategic, Lucky Owners (USA), Snowland, Mossman, Danasinga and Antonius Pius (USA). Young sires used in NSW represented whose oldest are three, two or yearlings include Not a Single Doubt, Stratum, Nadeem, Charge Forward, Starcraft, Snitzel, California Dane, Strada, Holy Roman Emperor (IRE), Ad Valorem (USA), Alert (ARG), Al Maher, Snippetson, Excites and Oratorio (IRE). Boom young sire Elvstroem and well established Bel Esprit are among Victorian based sires with lots in the catalogue. In addition four at leading Victorian studs supplying first crop yearlings are American Breeders' Cup Mile-Gr.1 winner Artie Schiller (USA) (Independent Stallions) and locals Churchill Downs (Danehill Golden Slipper placegetter at Blue Gum Farm), God's Own (Redoute's Choice Caulfield Guineas-Gr.1 winner at Eliza Park) and Written Tycoon (Iglesia STC Todman Slipper Trial-Gr.2; also at Eliza Park) New Zealand based sires represented include Pins, Darci Brahma, O'Reilly, Stravinsky (USA), Don Eduardo, One Cool Cat (USA), Danroad and Fast 'n' Famous (Redoute's Choice sprinter with first crop progeny). There is one each yearling got to southern hemisphere time by two of America's best sires, Distorted Humor and Dynaformer and one by promising sire Posse, a resident at the Vinery Stud, Kentucky. In addition there are several by Dansili, an England bred and based champion European miler who was the Leading European Sire in 2006.
