Bluebloods : Magic Millions Preview
December 2009 7 THE second biggest state representation at the 2010 Gold Coast sale in January after NSW will be contributed by sires at stud in Queensland, a region that has gone ahead in leaps and bounds as a nursery for quality performers. Among the national stars by this state's sires in recent years are Show a Heart, Falvelon, Gold Edition, General Nediym, Regimental Gal, Heart of Dreams, Mimi Lebrock, Crossyourheart, Gotta Have Heart, Black Piranha, Mossman, Segments, Pure Energy, Calaway Gal, Clangalang, Mr Clangtastic, Star Shiraz and Burdekin Blues. One stud to give the Queensland image a huge boost is the Jon Haseler-guided Glenlogan Park at Innisplain, an operation based on the use of brilliant Australian racehorses as sires. This stud has four well represented sires in the 2010 catalogue, the established Show a Heart and Falvelon and two of the current most promising first season sires, Jet Spur and Bradbury's Luck. Glenlogan's near neighbour Racetree is also poised to make its presence felt, introducing first crop yearlings by foundation sire Hotel Grand, a Grand Lodge (USA) AJC Spring Champion Stakes and Randwick Guineas winner in only nine starts. Racetree is on the former Noble Park Stud, where Gold Edition, Mossman, Segments and Pure Energy and many other winners were bred. Other prominent Queensland vendors include some of Australia's oldest one-family studs, the Kruger's Lyndhurst, Turkington family's Wattle Brae, Basil Nolan's Raheen, the McAlpine's Eureka and the Barnes' historic Canning Downs. Others in the state with high grade prospects available include Highgrove (bred Jet Spur), the consistently successful Oaklands, Oakwood, Clear Mountain Fairview, Robyn Wise, Royston, Warrandale, Almavale, Furlong, Epsom Lodge and Twin Peaks. Besides Hotel Grand, Queensland sires with first crop yearlings listed include All Bar One (Hennessy (USA) Gr.2 winner at Oaklands), Get Square (Redoute's Choice Gr.3 winner at Wattle Brae), Outback Prince (Desert Prince (IRE) earner of five Gr.1 cheques at Clear Mountain Fairview) and Red Dazzler (Red Ransom (USA) leading miler and Gr.1 winner at Eureka). • The Thursday January 14 yearling sale session is to be followed the next day by the Magic Millions Summer Carnival Thoroughbred sale. QUEENSLAND'S national stars Jet Spur (Flying Spur-Verocative by Bletchingly) M.K. It adds up to the fact that you can't chase the Magic Millions riches unless you bought at the company's sales.
