Bluebloods : December 2009
December 2009 14 ACOLT being offered at the Gold Coast by Scone's Cressfield, one of the biggest quality broodmare and yearling production complexes in the Hunter Valley, is bred on a similar cross to the Gr.1 winners Inspiration and Casino Prince. They are by the Danehill (USA) Golden Slipper winner and champion sire Flying Spur and from daughters of the very talented racehorse and dual hemisphere sire Last Tycoon (IRE). Cressfield's Flying Spur yearling gets close to this cross by being the first foal of Bashful, a New Zealand Cambridge Breeders' Stakes-Gr.3 winner by Last Tycoon's best Australasian sire son, O'Reilly. Bashful is a half-sister to Hong Kong Cheri, a Danasinga winner of 10 races, including appearances in Melbourne and Adelaide, and is from a half- sister to Fair Sir, a winner or placegetter in eight Gr.1 races. Cressfield has four yearlings in its draft by Flying Spur, one of Australia's most reliable sources of quality performers. He has been represented by more than 600 winners of 2000 races (1520 in Australia) for earnings of $79.8m. One of the big attractions of the sale will be the presentation by Cressfield of a September 8-foaled chestnut colt got by Flying Spur from one of the best sprinting fillies of recent years, Regimental Gal. In earning more than $1.6m, she won seven races including the VRC Lightning Stakes-Gr.1, MVRC Australia Stakes-Gr.1, AJC San Domenico Stakes-Gr.2, Silver Shadow Stakes-Gr.2 and Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic. Her deceased sire General Nediym has been a big success as a source of winners and looks set to continue to transmit excellence through his daughters. One of them is the dam of General Truce, a Brief Truce (USA) two year-old who recorded a dashing win in the past spring in the VRC Maribyrnong Plate-Gr.3. A General Nediym filly was second. One of the most powerfully bred colts in the catalogue is a Cressfield Flying Spur who is the first foal of Donatella (IRE). She is by Sadler's Wells and from Aim for the Top, a Gr.3 winner by Irish River, sire of Brief Truce and of the dam of Dolphin Street, a sire of Australian Gr.1 winners. Donatella is a sister to English Gr.1 second Dance to the Top and nearly a three-quarter sister to Polar Bear, a Listed winner in England and Australia and a second placegetter in the MRC Underwood Stakes-Gr.1. Cressfield's other Flying Spur is a bay colt from the Marscay mare Lady Cay, a winner of three sprint races in Sydney and second in the STC Tea Rose Stakes-Gr.2. She is from one of the Aga Khan's most successful families, including her great-grandam being a half-sister to his French 2000 Guineas winner and influential sire Zeddaan and to the second dam of Ashkalani, another winner of this classic. Ashkalani shuttled to Australia and included in his progeny four stakes winners and nine others stakes placed. Cressfield has also embellished the catalogue with two by Redoute's Choice, a filly from the Marscay STC Magic Night Stakes-Gr.2, Sweet Embrace Stakes-Gr.3 and AJC Widden Stakes-LR winner Countess Christie, and a colt from the Snippets SAJC Cinderella Stakes-LR winner and SAJC The Jansz Stakes-Gr.3 third Get To Work. The filly is a three-quarter sister to the Rock of Gibraltar (IRE) stakes winner I Have No Fear, both of them being by Danehill sires and from Countess Christie. An interesting feature of the breeding of Sequin, the dam of Get To Work, is that she is by the Danzig sire Lure (USA) and from a mare by Street Cry's sire Machiavellian. Machiavellian is a close relation to the greatest Danzig product, Danehill. CRESSFIELD COLT bred on Gr.1-winning lines Regimental Gal (General Nediym-Hallaya by Yallah Prince) M.G.
